The Fix is In ~ Gambling and Game Fixing in Major League Sports Worldwide

Televised sports is big business, pure and simple. And as much as it may hurt to admit it, our favorite sports and our favorite teams may not be entirely on the up and up in terms of fair and innocent competition. Listen to this interview with Brian Tuohy, author of The Fix Is In: The Showbiz Manipulations of the NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL and NASCAR. And not to mention World Cup Soccer and Tennis, the two most bet-upon sports in the world.

One of his most interesting points is that the NFL went before the Supreme Court (I believe it was the Supreme Court) for a case and actually argued that the NFL is entertainment, not necessarily competition, and that the fans who buy tickets to their events are owed the presentation of a football game, and nothing more. Fans are not owed a fair game that is not manipulated… they are simply owed the presentation of the football game that is printed on the ticket.

Anyway, I highly recommend this and other interviews with Brian Tuohy on the subject of major sports corruption.
